TVer, along with NHK world streaming and Locipo, which works exactly like TVer but only supports stations in Nagoya including some exclusive shows, are the only non-pirate and free means.

I got advice from a Japanese friend who used a VPN together with an app called TVer https://tver.jp/app The only problem is that the app can only be downloaded from the Japanese Google.
It's a website/app that hosts replays of Japanese TV shows. There are live stream programs too. It's free to use, you just need a VPN set to Japan.

The downside is that apps like TVer need to be up to date to function properly, which means periodically reinstalling all my apps from sketchy websites. Anybody have a more elegant solution?
