Hightail: The Modern Alternative to YouSendIt for Secure File Sharing

In today’s fast-paced digital world, seamless and secure file sharing is more important than ever. Whether you're a professional team moving critical data or a casual user sending documents across devices, having a reliable, user-friendly platform matters. That’s where Hightail—formerly known as YouSendIt—steps in as a powerful, comprehensive alternative to YouSendIt.

In this SEO-optimized article, we’ll explore what Hightail offers, why it’s a top choice for secure file sharing, how it compares to its former identity as YouSendIt, and why modern users are switching to this intuitive cloud service.

What Is Hightail? (Formerly YouSendIt)

Hightail, originally launched as YouSendIt, rebranded to better reflect its modern identity and expanded capabilities. Now known simply as Hightail, the platform delivers secure, fast, and encrypted file sharing across devices and teams—perfect for individuals, businesses, and creative professionals.

Since its rebranding, Hightail has evolved beyond simple file transfers: it now combines elite security, collaboration tools, storage, and sharing in one intuitive interface. No longer just “YouSendIt,” Hightail is the go-to platform for gamers, entrepreneurs, educators, and anyone needing safe and efficient cloud-based file exchange.

Why Switch from YouSendIt to Hightail?

When YouSendIt first emerged, it quickly became popular for allowing users to send large files securely without email limits or password-heavy workarounds. However, the rebrand to Hightail marks a strategic leap forward. Here’s why Hightail outperforms its predecessor:

Enhanced Security: Hightail uses end-to-end encryption, two-factor authentication (2FA), and role-based access controls, ensuring files stay protected from unauthorized access.
Advanced Collaboration: The platform enables real-time document co-editing and shared links with customized permissions—ideal for teams working on contracts, presentations, or creative projects.
Large File Handling: No more chunked uploads or size limits. Hightail supports files of any size, including high-definition videos, large IDE projects, and enterprise datasets.
Integrated Storage: Combine sharing with cloud storage, reducing the need to sign into multiple services. Hightail offers 50GB of free storage on signup, expandable with paid plans.
Cross-Platform Simplicity: Mobile apps for iOS and Android mean no matter where you are, you can share, edit, and download files effortlessly.
User-Friendly Interface: Streamlined design makes even non-technical users feel confident managing files securely.

Hightail vs. Competitors: Where It Stands

Compared to Dropbox, WeTransfer, or collaborations tools like Box, Hightail differentiates itself with a sharper focus on secure enterprise collaboration and enterprise-grade controls—without sacrificing simplicity. While Dropbox excels in storage depth, Hightail delivers tighter security and real-time team workflows perfect for remote teams. WeTransfer remains popular for one-off transfers but lacks Hightail’s team features and automation capacity.

Hightail’s rebranding to YouSendIt’s successor signals a laser focus on innovation and enterprise readiness—making it both a personal and professional powerhouse.

How Hightail Serves Modern Needs

Remote Workforce: Teams rely on Hightail for seamless, secure document exchange, screen sharing, and collaborative editing—all in one place.
Creative Professionals: Artists, designers, and developers appreciate built-in version control and direct sharing with stakeholders.
Education Sector: Schools and universities use Hightail to distribute course materials, collect assignments, and share feedback safely.
Gaming & Entertainment: Streamers and game developers leverage Hightail for quick, secure sharing of large game assets and project files.
